Iron Man 4 has certainly maintained its mystery. After Robert Downey Jr. himself confirmed the existence of the fourth installment of his solo Marvel film back in 2014, nothing much was said about it. As if that’s not enough reason to doubt if it will ever happen, RDJ has been giving confusing answers when asked about Tony Stark’s fate.

Four years ago, when the 53-year-old actor and singer was asked by Ellen Degeneres on her talk show if there will be an Iron Man 4, Robert Downey Jr. hesitantly said yes. Although his answer was quite awkward, fans took his confirmation to heart and had remained hopeful despite the lack of update.

Four years later, there is still no Iron Man 4 release date. In fact, it even appears that Robert Downey Jr. has a change of heart about the possibility of his fourth Solo Marvel film, as he has been sharing that he’s more than ready to move on from playing everyone’s favorite genius, billionaire, playboy philanthropist.

Despite his earlier confirmation, Robert Downey Jr. gave fans a mini heart attack when he told Variety that the number of Tony Stark’s solo films would be ending at three. The actor bluntly revealed that "There isn’t one in the pipe. No, there’s no plan for a fourth Iron Man."

Iron Man 4 Might Not Happen As Robert Downey Jr. Ready To Explore Other Roles

As if that’s not enough, Robert Downey Jr. previously said that Captain America: Civil War was his “little ‘Iron Man 4,’” which means that there is no need to create one. The veteran star also shared in an earlier interview that he would want to branch out while he still can.

However, fans are having a hard time accepting his words since Iron Man started everything for all the other Marvel superheroes. Now that Avengers: Infinity War has already been released, many believe that most of the characters needed more story, and Tony Stark is definitely one of them. Unfortunately, there is still no update about Iron Man 4 as of this writing.
