South Korean singer Heyne has been receiving backlash for the music video of her song: "Insomnia." Some netizens voiced out their disappointment towards the K-pop singer after watching her latest MV. Many said it was based on the "Lolita" concept which Henye strongly denied.

Heyne has dropped her single "Insomnia" earlier this month. It is her first ever self-composed song.  Soon after its release, some netizens accused Heyne of using the "Lolita" concept. Lolita has different meanings. One of which means a young girl who dresses seductively or provocatively and tries to attract older men. This is what some think about Heyne's "Insomnia" video.

Heyne's Response to Haters

In a letter (via AllKPop), the K-pop solo singer said she doesn't understand why people accused her of using such a concept. She explained that she has no intention at all of making a "Lolita" video. The 27-year-old singer, however, admitted that she was trying different images.

Heyne said the reason that people reacted negatively to her video is that they don't often see her in revealing clothes. Heyne confessed that she never wears tight-fitted clothing or shows any skin when she performs because of her body. It was her first time to wear revealing clothes in the "Insomnia" music video.

"I've always had a child-like image, very hidden, which may be why when I wore revealing clothes for the first time, the public took my MV as that way. But I had no intentions [of a 'Lolita' concept]," she said.

Moreover, Heyne has stressed that her latest MV is not "noise marketing." Heyne said she did not make the MV just to spark controversy. She admitted that the negative comments she has been receiving really upset her.

"In some ways, I'm fearful of this unexpected response. Some of it is my fault. It's my fault; I should be a woman who is taller with a curvier body," she said in conclusion.

A representative from Heyne's label, Crescendo Music, also came to her defense. The agency said all they wanted was for their artist to look pretty in her music video.

"The MV didn't even have a storyline. We just went with visual concepts," the agency said.

Meanwhile, some netizens are still not convinced that Heyne had no intention of making her MV look sensual. One netizen stressed that the issue is not the singer's body, but the entire concept of the video.

Heyne has started her singing career in 2010. She released her first singles "Dalla" in mid-2013 and "Love007" in the later part of the same year. Heyne appeared in several TV shows including King of Mask Singer and Paik Jong-won's Food Truck, both in 2016.
