Girls’ Generation Members Busy With Their Own Gigs; Sooyoung Lands First Major Film Role

Girls' Generation Sooyoung landed her first major role in a movie based on a Japanese novel. The South Korean singer will be playing the main female character for the movie Memories of a Dead End, a Korean-Japanese collaborative movie. 

The film is based on Yoshimoto Banana's novel of the same name. The story will revolve around a woman, Yumi moving on from a love that she thought was going to last.  She will be moving to a new city where she will meet new people and have new experiences that will begin a new chapter of her life. 

Director Jang Chul Han from Echo Global Group, Sooyoung's agency, said that the singer-actress chose the movie as her next project to for its artistic value. She also sees the movie as a way for her to further establish her acting career in the industry. 

The movie will be directed by Choi Hyun Young. He also recently expressed his enthusiasm over casting the Girls' Generation member for the main role. 

"I couldn't think of a better actor when thinking of the sincerity towards acting she has shown in the past, as well as the fact that her Japanese skills are exceptional. I am grateful to be working with her," he said in an interview with Soompi. 

Fans of Sooyoung are also excited for her as she takes on this major role. Some fans have shared their excitement on Reddit. One fan commented that she is finally making good use of her Japanese. 

Other Girls' Generation members are also busy with their careers. One of the members, Tiffany has released a new solo track for the animated film Coco. Seohyun will be performing in North Korea and will be a part of the first concerts by South Korean artists in the North after ten years. Yuri and Raiden will be performing at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami. 

Sooyoung has starred in various television dramas such as The 3rd Hospital, Dating Agency: Cyrano, My Spring Days, and 38 Revenue Collection Unit.

They will start filming in Japan in April.
