‘Death Note’ Movie Cast Adds Margaret Qualley In The Lineup; Film Slated For 2016 Release

Warner Bros. has found its lead actress to be included in the cast of "Death Note" movie adaptation. American actress and model Margaret Qualley has been selected to play an unidentified role in the movie, according to Deadline.

It has previously been reported that "The Fault in Our Stars" actor Natt Wolff will lead the cast of "Death Note" movie, playing the lead character Light Yagami. This will be the American film remake of the Japanese manga and anime series which was written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata.

"Death Note" also has two live-action film adaptations in Japan. Both films were released in 2006 starring "Battle Royale" and "Rurouni Kenshin" actor Tatsuya Fujiwara, and was directed by Shusuke Kaneko.

A sequel movie has been confirmed for 2016 release and will be directed by "Gantz" director Shinsuke Sato, according to an earlier report from Anime News Network.

Meanwhile, aside from Qualley no other actors have been announced yet to be included in the cast of "Death Note." Qualley, 21, is best known for her role as Jill Garvey on the HBO series "The Leftovers." She is the daughter of actress and model Andie MacDowell who is known for her roles in "St. Elmo's Fire," "The Secret of the Sahara" and the critically acclaimed "Sex, Lies, and Videotape."

Qualley was initially a ballet dancer and model prior to becoming an actress. Her onscreen debut was on the 2013 film "Palo Alto" which was directed by Gia Coppola. She is also set to appear on the 2016 movie "The Nice Guys" which stars Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe.

The story of "Death Note" follows a high school student named Light Yagami who discovers the titular notebook that kills anyone whose name is written on it, allowing him to control the people and the details of their death.

An anime adaptation of the series was released in October 2006 and ended in June 2007, spanning a total of 37 episodes.
