The future of Sherlock Season 5 remains up in the air, but it looks like Martin Freeman is happy with the show's hiatus. The 46-year-old star, who plays the role of Doctor Watson, revealed that the series' break gives him the time to take away all the pressures of living to the fans' expectations.

Fans have been clamoring to see Sherlock Season 5's new set of episodes. However, PBS has yet to announce the show's renewal or if it will ever have a new season.

Whatever the future brings, Freeman, who also starred in the currently showing Black Panther, said that he quite like to take a break from filming that show for a little while. "Cause people like your show, but it can feel quite pressured actually," he said, via Cinema Blend.

Freeman feels the pressure of filming new episodes of Sherlock Season 5 because they always have to surprise them with a new twist or plot. However, when the fans got shocked harder than expected, they will start hating the actor for doing that.

The English actor admitted that it is tricky to do a mystery series like Sherlock. He even revealed that compared to the other shows he has done, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's detective stories have the most expectation. "I'm happy to give it a rest for a while certainly," he said.

Additionally, Freeman frankly disclosed that he has no news about Sherlock Season 5's future and it will continue to be on a hiatus until the big bosses' further notice. The show is known for taking longer gaps before revealing new season.

In fact, Sherlock Season 4, which was aired in January 2017, took three years to be released after Season 3 was unveiled in 2014. However, the network was revealing Christmas specials in between those years.

So, fans believe that the coming of Sherlock Season 5 will take longer than usual. The show's co-creator, Steven Moffat, even said in an interview with Radio Times that the series will have "longer gap."

"Nobody has ever closed the door on 'Sherlock' - we just say the same thing all the time and it gets quoted different ways," he explained. He also revealed that they don't have an immediate plan yet for the new season.

He even admitted that he will be also surprised if they don't continue doing it again, in spite of the enthusiasm everyone is showing. So, it looks like fans just have to wait for their official announcement about Sherlock Season 5's continuation.
