Once Upon A Time Season 7

A new book will open this fall in "Once Upon A Time" Season 7. After losing the majority of its core cast, the fairy tale series will introduce new characters and reintroduce old favorites in stories that are yet to be told.

In a new interview, show creators Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz compared the series to "Indiana Jones" wherein the story follows its hero into different adventures. So how will the future of the television series look like? Find out below.

Season 7 is basically a reboot: with a new setting, a new lead character, and a new cast, the writers were allowed a fresh start. This new adventure begins in Hyperion Heights were an adult Henry (played by Andrew J. West) with no recollection of whatever happened in Storybrooke. And, like how she arrived in front of Emma Swan's (Jennifer Morrison) doorsteps years ago, his daughter pulls him out of his ordinary life and into an adventure of a lifetime.

According to Kitsis and Horowitz, they have always planned a soft reboot after six seasons. Just like how superhero movies get rebooted every couple of years, the screenwriters think that fairy tales, too, can be told in multiple versions.

"We always planned for six years. You look at Marvel and these reboots we were like, 'Why can't fairy tales be rebooted?'" Kitsis told The Hollywood Reporter

Six years is the point when initial contracts ended and licensing fees have to be renewed. He also shared that they thought six years is the ideal run for a television show, like "Lost."

"Because the show deals with magic, it allows so many avenues to reinvent things but also to not abandon what we have done," Horowitz added. "It has allowed us this great freedom of taking characters that we have loved for years, to keep some of them and then to bring in new ones and mix it up and keep the essence and the spirit of the show alive but go in a new direction."

EW has released a first look at the "Once Upon A Time" Season 7 premiere episode on Friday, Oct. 6, on ABC. Henry meets Roni, a new character played by Lana Parilla." Watch below.
