'Dark Matter' Season 4: Fans Campaign To Bring Cancelled Syfy Series To Netflix

Dark Matter Season 4

The fight is not over for fans of "Dark Matter." After the cancellation of the space epic on Syfy, fans are now campaigning for the streaming service, Netflix, to pick up the series created by Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie for Season 4.

This weekend, a few days after the third season finale aired, Syfy announced that it is canceling "Dark Matter." The news came as a surprise considering that the series based on a graphic novel of the same title has a loyal following and has generated consistently high ratings since its debut. In fact, it remained to be one of Syfy's top scripted shows up until the Season 3 - now series - finale.

But after three glorious seasons, Mallozzi confirmed on his personal blog that "Dark Matter" will not return for Season 4. "It is with great sadness that I confirm the news," he wrote. "Syfy has canceled 'Dark Matter' after three seasons."

Prior to the cancellation announcement, Mallozzi and fans made noise on social media and tried to persuade Syfy to renew the series to Season 4. They trended the hashtag, #RenewDarkMatter, on Twitter, but it fell on deaf ears.

The network did not provide a statement as to why the series was axed. However, based on the report by Variety, it seems like Syfy will focus all of its energy and resources into new scripted sci-fi shows like "Happy!," Krypton," "Superstition," "Ghost Wars," "Tremors" and "Nightflyers."

That said, the show's creators and fans are looking for a new home for the series. On Twitter, Mallozzi called on fans to ask Netflix to pick up "Dark Matter" Season 4.

Netflix is already currently streaming the first two seasons of the space drama (and will likely add the third season later this year), so it would make sense if the company saves the beloved series. As Carter Matt pointed out, the streaming service already probably understands how the series performs.

Netflix has saved a couple of television series canceled prematurely in the past. "Arrested Development," "Longmire" and "The Killing" all found second chances thanks to the streaming service.

Moreover, loyal and passionate fan love has revived television series in the past. After Netflix canned "Sense8" after two seasons for example, fans started petitions and made noise on social media to voice out their disappointment over the series' cancellation that resulted to a final, wrap-up movie.

For now, join Mallozzi and the cast every Friday to persuade Netflix to make "Dark Matter" Season 4 happen. Or sign the petition below.
