'Supergirl' Season 3: How Heartbroken Kara Is Dealing With Losing Mon-El

Supergirl Season 3

Kara Danvers is mourning the loss of her boyfriend, Mon-El (played by Chris Wood), in "Supergirl" Season 3, but she will not let her feelings get in the way of her duty. According to Melissa Benoist, the young hero will struggle to deal with her very human feelings, so she will choose to bury herself with saving the people of National City.

To recall, the hour-long second season finale saw the team release lead into the Earth's atmosphere to prevent a Daxamite invasion. Because lead is basically the Daxamites' Kryptonite, Mon-El immediately fell ill. In order to save him, Kara said a tearful good bye and launched him into space.

Mon-El's fate and whether he will see Kara again remain to be seen. However, his absence will play a major role in "Supergirl" Season 3.

"It's a couple of months past where we left off," Benoist reveals (via CBR). "When we pick up in Season 3, Kara has very much dedicated herself to Supergirl, and I don't think she really wants to address what happened for Kara Danvers personally because that was such a massive heartbreak for her."

This will lead her to a place where she will question her own identity. Of course, while she was raised as a human by her human parents, she is still an alien. By the end of "Supergirl" Season 3, Kara needs to decide whether she is human or an alien, and "which she wants to be."

As for Mon-El, things are looking bad for the Prince of Daxam. Den of Geek notes that similar things happened to the character in the comics: he was launched into space. However, to keep him safe, Superman placed him in the Phantom Zone until they found a cure. One thousand years have passed when he was freed by the Legion of Super-Heroes, a group he later joined.

The site also points out that the wormhole that opened in front of Mon-El's pod looked awfully like the one where Kara's own pod fell into before reaching Earth. The series has already revealed that Supergirl took a detour to the Phantom Zone and ended up in stasis during her journey from Krypton.

That said, it is likely that Kara will not see Mon-El anytime soon. "Supergirl" Season 3 will premiere on Oct. 9 on The CW.
