Supernatural Season 13: Now That Crowley Is Gone, Hell To Have A New Ruler

Supernatural Season 13

Hell needs a new ruler in "Supernatural" Season 13. After the death of Crowley (Mark Sheppard)  in last season's finale, a new king of the underworld is expected to rise.

While Castiel (Misha Collins) will be back for one more adventure with Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) in the Impala, Crowley will not be. Sheppard earlier this year confirmed that he has filmed his final scenes for the long-running paranormal drama and will not appear in any future episodes.

That said, Hell needs a new ruler and someone is going to fill it fast. In an interview with EW, showrunner Andrew Dabb talks about the state of Hell in "Supernatural" Season 13.

"There is a power vacuum," the screenwriter explains. "Into that power vacuum will step a new player for us. Once Crowley is gone, demon-kind and some of our players - some we've met before and some that are new - start asking themselves: What is the future of Hell? People come with various different agendas."

After seven years, Crowley went from a villain into an unexpected ally of Sam and Dean. The former King of the Crossroads also eventually unseated Lucifer and became the ruler of Hell. However, in the finale of Season 12, Crowley sacrificed himself in order to once and for all seal Lucifer in an alternate dimension.

It looks like the consequences of Crowley's ultimate sacrifice will still play out in "Supernatural" Season 13. Who will become the next king of Hell and how it will affect Sam and Dean remains to be seen.

In addition, executive producer Robert Singer reveals that the upcoming season will be smaller scale than Season 12. He tells Cinema Blend that they aim to focus on the "emotional possibilities" which seems to be a step in the right direction considering that Season 13 already has a complicated plot that involves an alternate apocalyptic dimension and the son of Lucifer. "Supernatural" Season 13 will premiere on Oct. 12 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
