K-Pop News: Red Velvet Makes Record Black Pink Has Yet To Achieve
Managed by SM Entertainment, K-pop girl group Red Velvet members Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, Joy and Yeri have once again proven their world-class talent. Their most recent extended play is currently dominating international charts.
"The Red Summer" ranked number one in the World Albums chart released by Billboard on July 18, Tuesday, for the week ending in July 29. It of Red Velvet's fifth EP with a title track called "The Red Summer," which was released by SM Entertainment digitally on July 9 and physically on July 10.
Including "Red Flavor," "The Red Summer" has five tracks. The other songs in the EP are "You Better Know," "Zoo," "Mojito" and "Hear the Sea."
This is not the first time a Red Velvet album ranked number one on the World Albums chart. Previously, the K-pop girl group's albums "The Red" and "Rookie" achieved the same feat.
No other K-pop girl group has ever held three number-one albums on the World Albums chart other than Red Velvet. Girls' Generation, Girls' Generation-TTS and f(x), which are also under SM Entertainment, all have two number-one albums on the chart.
Currently, Black Pink is emerging as the most promising K-pop girl group following the disbandment of 2NE1. However, with Red Velvet's recent feat, it appears that Black Pink still has a lot more to prove to become the top K-pop girl group.
Still, the success of Black Pink cannot be denied, especially with their chart-topping comeback song titled "As If It's Your Last." During their guest appearance on "Park Myung Soo's Radio Show" of KBS Cool FM on July 17, Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo, and Rosé talked about the attention they are getting, according to Chosun.
The Black Pink girls are tied to their dorms so they are not sure if people recognize them, they said. People tend to recognize them if they move around with their manager but people do not seem to notice them if dress in dark clothes, they added.
