2017 Amazon Sales Update: Amazon's Prime Day Shocks Fans With Ridiculous Discount For Echo Speaker
Amazon has used huge discounts to turn its Echo speaker into a best seller on the company's annual Prime Day. Marketing experts strongly believe that the strategy was made as a bet to use the marketing event to push its voice-activated digital assistant.
Amazon Shocks Fans With Ridiculous Discount For Echo Speaker
The original Echo model was discounted 50 percent to $89.99 while the smaller Echo Dot was given 30 percent off. The Kindle Fire 7 tablet with Alexa was also among the top deals during the 30-hour event.
Even if Amazon dissipates money on these shocking speaker sales, the company still gets a grip for its Alexa platform to become more connected to shoppers. In the long run, users will use the device to check the weather, stream music, hail an Uber or even order pizza from Amazon in the future.
Amazon Leaks Offers And Deal
Amazon has claimed that millions of Prime members had already bought on the website as of 4 a.m. on July 11, Tuesday, in New York. The electronic commerce company is betting heavily on the devices to keep ahead of Alphabet Inc.'s Google and Apple Inc. in the emerging field of voice-based computing.
"They see voice as the third-generation platform for ordering things online," Bloomberg quoted Minneapolis consulting firm Frank N. Magid Associates senior vice president of retail Matt Sargent as saying. "They want these devices in as many places as possible in case people shift from ordering on mobile devices to ordering with their voices."
New members can now sign up for Prime on Alexa with the first year of membership costing $79 instead of $99 for a limited time, according to Market Watch. Amazon made Prime Day deals available to voice shoppers two hours earlier than the general public.
A poll of Alexa owners conducted by LivePerson found that 70.6 percent have made a purchase through Alexa at least once and 45.8 percent are repeat shoppers. Watch a video about Amazon's Echo Speaker here:
