Blizzard's "Overwatch" is not going to be free to play, according to a report by PlayStationLifestyle.net.

The game release date was confirmed a few days ago with the fact that it will be released for the new generation consoles which are the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. It was always thought that it was only for the PC. The release date of the game is on or before June 21, 2016. It was also announced that the game will priced at $40 and $60 for the special edition, according to Kotaku.

The game is not free to play because it would not suit its gameplay, according to sources. Game Director Jeff Kaplan explained that most of the Blizzard free to play games had to change the core gameplay to make it work. The company did not want that for the new shooter game.

"We really made the decision on the business model based on what we thought was right for the gameplay," said Kaplan.  "If you've played a lot of Overwatch, you know that hero-switching [mid-match] is a core part of it - it's a really fun dynamic part."

"The difference maker between ... Overwatch and other games is the fluidity in the team compositions and matching what the other team's doing," continued Kaplan.

"We want people to have enough options that they feel like they're not at a super huge disadvantage," said principle designer Scot Mercer during an interview at BlizzCon.

Mercer also admitted that the company is aware of their position they put themselves in but they are take this day by day. They will change if needed.  He was not able to give an answer to the question if the gamers will be able to gain access to heroes right away or will there be microtransactions in the future, according to sources.

While "Overwatch" will not be free to play, it will still come to the new generation consoles and the PC in 2016.
