‘Borderlands’ Online Cancelled In China; New Game Now In The Works!
"Borderlands" Online has been cancelled in China, according to IGN.
"Borderlands" online was announced in late 2014 for the China market by Take-Two Interactive, the game publisher. The online game was supposed to be released on PC and mobile and it will be exclusively for China markets in this year.
The game publisher has finally announced that the development of the game has been stopped. It was determined that the game could not get a good return, according to Gamespot.
Take-Two has also shut down 2k China, the game studio which handled the game, for good. 2k China had at least 150 employees, according to sources.
"We are excited about the opportunities to expand our business in Asia, and we remain committed to delivering AAA offerings for that region," said the game publisher in a statement. "At this time, we can confirm that we are closing 2K China."
"We determined that the additional time required to finish current projects at the studio, particularly Borderlands Online, would not yield a favorable return on investment," continued the statement.
Even though 2k China was shut down, the game publisher is trying to get those people who lost their jobs a new position again, according to Destructoid.
"We are working with affected staff to identify other opportunities within the company where possible," said Take-Two Interactive.
Some speculate that the game publisher's goal was to penetrate the large potential base in China.
Shutting down 2k China and "Borderlands" Online being cancelled did not affect the company's office in Singapore, the NBA 2k Online team, or the Chengdu testing group, according to sources. The game publisher also wants to release Civilization Online in Korea.
There is a new "Borderlands" game that is currently in development at Gearbox which is the game developer. Gearbox said it will be made specifically for next generation consoles, according to sources.
