T.O.P’s Doctors Tell Media That Big Bang Member Is Still In Extremely Bad Condition

Since news reports surfaced of Big Bang's T.O.P being hospitalized due to a drug overdose, there have been many conflicting statements from police, T.O.P's family, and YG Entertainment. Earlier yesterday, police said that T.O.P was semi-conscious when he was rushed to the hospital but T.O.P's mother fiercely denied this claim. On June 7, T.O.P's doctors held a briefing with the media to finally give the details on the Big Bang member's condition. The team of medical experts at Ewha Women's University Medical Center cleared up conflicting reports and gave a further analysis of the patient's state.

"It is suspected that Mr. Choi overdosed with a benzodiazepine," doctors told the press, saying that T.O.P was in 'extremely bad condition'. According to the doctors, he was unresponsive to 'light stimulation' and would only respond to 'hard stimulation'.  The team of experts said that his condition improved after receiving emergency treatment but that he was still in a narcoleptic state. T.O.P's doctors further added, "If the patient's condition improves we will conduct treatment together with the hospital's mental health department." The doctors said that above anything else, the patient's mental health is the priority once he wakes up.

Earlier, the Big Bang member's mother disputed initial police claims that her son was responsive, and said that her son was in a much worse condition than what the police previously reported. "The condition of my son is quite bad. It's been misreported after the police announced that my boy, who is almost dying, was not fully awake from tranquilizers," T.O.P's mother told the media. She added, "He was clearly unconscious when moved to the hospital. The doctor confirmed it." Big Bang's agency, YG Entertainment, backed up the mother's statement, saying, "The mother was very angry at the police report. T.O.P is currently unconscious and relying on a respirator. She's flabbergasted by the police report that said he was 'in a state of sleep' when hospitalized."

Prior to the overdose incident, T.O.P was kicked out of his military service as a conscripted policeman at the Gangnam Police Station following his indictment on marijuana charges. The Big Bang member's military service will be suspended until the court reaches a verdict. If T.O.P receives a jail sentence of 18 months, the idol will be dishonorably discharged from the military.
