Jimmy Kimmel To Return As Host For Oscars 2018
The 90th Academy Awards will take place next year and popular late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel will be back to host the program once again. Upon announcing the news, Kimmel said in jest, "If you think we screwed up the ending this year, wait until you see what we have planned for the 90th-anniversary show!"
It was only this year during the last Oscars when the world witnessed a live blunder during the announcement of Best Picture. Though Jimmy Kimmel stepped in to try to subdue and make light of the situation, the mix-up still went on to be the Oscars' most famous blooper in its history.
But the historic slip-up won't daunt the Oscars for next year's show. In fact, they invited Jimmy Kimmel back to host again next year. The last person to host two consecutive Oscars was Billy Crystal in 1997 to 1998. Academy president Cheryl Boone announced on Tuesday that Kimmel will return to host. Michael de Luca and Jennifer Todd, producers of the previous Oscars, will be back as well. This is almost similar to the move Miss Universe did after the infamous mess with the announcement of the pageant winners in 2015. After the Steve Harvey screw-up, of course, they invited him back to host the next show.
Boone said, "Mike and Jennifer produced a beautiful show that was visually stunning," she went on, "And Jimmy proved, from his opening monologue all the way through a finale we could never have imagined, that he is one our finest hosts in Oscar history."
Upon receiving the invitation, Jimmy Kimmel took to his Twitter page to express his delight, but not without a side joke. "Thanks to @TheAcademy for asking me to host The #Oscars again (assuming I opened the right envelope)," the host tweeted.
Since the awards show will be marking their 90th anniversary, everyone is wondering and anticipating what the next historic move will be this time around. Hopefully, it doesn't involve an embarrassing mishap with the envelopes anymore. The 90th Oscars will be held on March 4, 2018, in Los Angeles.
