Fox is bringing back Jess and the gang for a final season of the hit comedy show "New Girl" but they will only be on air for an eight-episode run. For its last season, cast members Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Damon Wayans Jr., Hannah Simone and Lamorne Morris are set to bring on the laughs as well as a fitting conclusion to seven seasons of friendship and shenanigans.

According to a report by TVLine, Fox renewed "New Girl" for a fresh season after several seasons of being a bubble show. Bubble shows are shows that are always on the verge of cancellation despite its success for its niche fanbase. It was reported that "New Girl" Season 6 averaged 2.9 viewers per episode and a 1.5 rating among the coveted 18-49 demographic.

In a twitter post, actor Jake Johnson, who plays Nick in "New Girl" announced on his twitter the happy news. He greeted the fans a happy mothers' day and shared how excited the "New Girl" team is to be picked up for an eight-episode Season 7.

It can be recalled that fans have already resigned to the fact that the "New Girl" Season 6 finale was already the last episode of the show and was written as such just in case the show did not get renewed for Season 7. As one of the first comedy series to focus on a young female character. "New Girl" forged the path for other similar shows in other networks and followed the vein of other ensemble comedies like "Friends," and "The Big Bang Theory" because of its core theme of friendship and dealing with adult issues, Entertainment Weekly reported.

For its last season, "New Girl" Executive Producer David Finkel said that they will have fun exploring Nick's newfound success, his relationship with Jess as well as the rest of the gang's growth in finding the thing they want in their careers. "In a world where Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Cece (Hannah Simone) and Winston (Lamorne Morris) and Jess have all sort of found the thing that they've been looking for, at least in their work lives, that Nick's still on his road is interesting. I think there's a lot of fun to be had there," he said.
