The Progression From Graphite To Graphene

Graphene is dubbed to be the material that pretty much holds the key to modern-day technology and engineering. But, there's a popular saying that suggests that most good things are difficult to achieve and that is exactly what is applicable in this situation. Over the past few years, researchers have tried coming up with ways that not only help fasten the process of obtaining graphene but also make use of the same in different factors.

According to a report published by Science Daily, a team of scientists belonging to the Georgia Institute of Technology that is based in the US, Technische University Munchen of Germany and the University of Saint Andrews in Scotland has been working on a new method to produce graphene. After what appears to be a long time, the scientists have finally been able to discover an easy way out for this.

As per further reports, they have discovered a new method wherein what they essentially do is they make use of either ethane or ethylene and produce a single layer of graphene. They boiled ethylene or ethane at a high temperature, apparently exceeding 700 degrees Celcius and are able to produce graphene by adding a few other materials as well.

A report by Reddit has described graphene to be a wonder material that has the potential to carry multiple functions including serving as an efficient conductor of heat and electrical products. Due to the strength that graphene holds, it also holds the ability to act as a mediator between many of the other materials.

The researchers in question have described the process of producing graphene as extremely simple. In fact, they have even posted a press release regarding the details of their research. Interested readers can check it out on their official website.
