Apple Watch Series 1

Apple retail store employees and the Apple Authorized Service Providers, both ended up receiving a rather surprising notice from Apple today. The retail stores and Service providers were asked to extend the service coverage period of the first-generation Apple Watch from 1 year to 3 years.

In an explanation that is available on the company's website, the coverage is extended only to the original Apple Watch models, currently experiencing swollen or expanded batteries. Swollen batteries are a known issue among first generation Apple Watches, and many people all over the world have got their batteries replaced at a monetary expense.

The tech giant has still not made an official announcement for the extension of this period to the public and owners of the Apple Watch are currently in the dark. People that have paid for their battery replacements are still not clear on weather or if Apple will offer them reimbursements or not.

This extension of the warranty period does not require the purchase of Apple Care and is available to every first generation, Apple Watch owner.

Complaints and reports from people all over the internet have been swarming official forums in order to make sense of swollen batteries since the past few months. People have reported experiencing the issue on multiple occasions and from all parts of the world. You can find dedicated reports on support communities like the Reddit, Apple Community and various forums.

This issue causes the battery inside the watch to swell up significantly. This swollen battery causes the front face of the watch to push out of the metal casing. This renders the device completely unusable for users currently experiencing this problem. The second-generation Apple Watch has been free from any such issue, unlike the first-generation model.
