According to official spoilers for "Supergirl" Season 2, Episode 18, Jack Spheer, Lena's former boyfriend, arrives at National City to showcase his big breakthrough in the field of nano-technology. This technology introduced by Jack has the potential to remove all diseases. Lena asks Kara to come with her to Jack's conference for support.
In "Supergirl" Season 2, Episode 18, Kara sees Snapper at the conference and she is motivated to re-explore her reporting skills. She goes up to Jack and asks questions about his recent discovery. However, the questions lead to a bigger investigation and it puts everyone in danger.
"Supergirl" Season 2, Episode 18 Official Summary: "Lena's (guest star Katie McGarth) ex-boyfriend, Jack Spheer (guest star Rahul Kohli), comes to National City to unveil his big breakthrough in nanotechnology, which has the potential to eradicate all diseases. Lena asks Kara to attend Jack's conference with her for support. When Kara sees Snapper (guest Star Ian Gomez) in attendance she's inspired to tap back into her reporter skills and questions Jack on his discovery, which ultimately leads to a bigger investigation that puts everyone in danger."
