North Korea Stays Tough Albeit Supercarrier Presence In The Region; Vows To Speed Up ICBM Development
North Korea's Kim Jong-un still plays tough as he vowed to hasten the development of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) after learning that the U.S. has deployed one of its aircraft carriers at the Korean Peninsula. With such move by the West, it may well seem that the Trump Administration only has few options towards the hunger stricken state.
Tensions in the said region are growing by the day with the continuous provocations of North Korea not to mention its nuclear arms research and development that does not seem to slow down albeit the outcry and condemnation of its neighbors. Now that the Nimitz-class supercarrier USS Carl Vinson has reached the Korean Peninsula, many believe that one wrong move from Pyongyang and the U.S. won't hesitate to retaliate.
In a statement obtained by CNBC, former Pentagon official Daniel Goure stated that the current situation is very near its tipping point. In line with this, the upcoming birthday celebration of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) founder Kim Il-sung this April 15 could be a catalyst to the current situation as the rogue nation has the penchant of launching missiles during this occasion.
Chinese President Xi Jinping, on the other hand, has remained silent about his take on the said issue. Nevertheless, according to the New York Times, the head of state did agree to the fact that the North Korean problem has reached a point that an action has to be done.
The USS Carl Vinson was supposed to dock at exercises and port of calls in Australia when it was re-routed from Singapore to the Korean Peninsula on Saturday. Aside from the Vinson, the naval armada consisted of three cruisers and destroyers before it was ordered by Trump to change course. Watch a video about it here:
