"Attack on Titan" season 2

The much awaited "Attack on Titan" Season 2 will be a case of good news/bad news for avid fans of the series. Unlike its predecessor, the second season will only feature 12 episodes.

According to a report by Polygon, fans will be disappointed to know that Attack on Titan Season 2 will only have half as many episodes as Season 1 which featured 21 episodes in addition to some special episodes. While studios may have been willing to produce a longer series, it could be that studios are running out of resources and manpower to explore for the anime.

According to a tweet by animator Thomas Romain, anime series like "Attack on Titan" Season 2 may have been indirectly affected by the strong demand of Western content providers for anime. He cited the case of Netflix, a streaming platform that partners with studios and content providers to come up with full series in a limited time but without adding the required budget to hire more people.

Romain said that as a result, this has affected the development of the series because there are less episodes made available to the market. He explained that for shows like "Attack on Titan", coming out with 12 episodes has become increasingly difficult with limited manpower and resource.

While having lesser episodes may come as a big blow to fans who are expecting more, it doesn't mean that the dozen episodes scheduled for airing isn't as awesome as the previous season. In a review posted by Den of Geek, the site cited the introduction of the Beast Titan as well as the story's pick up from last season.

Fan theories have earlier speculated that new Titans will be introduced to the story this year. Fans have also speculated some major character deaths as well as an exploration of some back stories to explain the events of last season. "Attack on Titan" Season 2 premiered on Hulu and Crunchyroll April 1.
