The ousted South Korean leader Park Geun-hye.

Impeached South Korean president Park Geun-hye has finally reached the end of her political road as she was issued an arrest warrant on Friday, March 31 due to numerous criminal charges. Moreover, she will be written down in the books as the first South Korean leader to go behind bars since the country transitioned to a democratic form of government.

Park getting ousted from office has officially ended a lengthy period of uncertainty within South Korea due to the aforementioned unscrupulous transactions that she did with some of the country's largest conglomerates which include consumer electronics giant Samsung. Such political turmoil serves as another blow towards the country as tensions with North Korea intensifies due to the south's recent acquisition of an anti-ballistic missile system from the U.S. known as THAAD, according to Reuters.

The arrest warrant was handed down by a judge at the Seoul Central District Court at around 3:00 a.m. Friday, March 31. Furthermore, the warrant came alongside with a notice stating that if the ousted leader were not taken into custody in a swift manner, the probability of Park tampering evidence would be very high, The New York Times reported.

Park is currently held inside a detention facility where former Samsung executive Jay Y. Lee (Lee Jae-yong) is also put in custody. Lee got sacked early on due to bribery raps in exchange of favors for Samsung.

Come May 9, the entirety of South Korea will be participating yet again in a snap election to determine who will be the country's next leader. As of late, liberal opposition's Moon Jae-in is leading the campaign trail and many believe that he will be the nation's next president. In the meantime, watch a video about Park Geun-hye featuring the itinerary of events that lead to her arrest:
