The German car manufacturer RUF is aiming to fire up the supercar segment at the Geneva Motor Show with the release of the company's fourth generation CTR range-topper. The car is hailed as the world's first carbon-fiber car that can be driven with a rear engine/transaxle powertrain.

According to Motor Trend, the RUF CTR is meant for purists who are into analog performance philosophy, which leans into the simplicity of a low weight-to-power ratio, proper needle-gauge instruments, minimalist interiors and a rear-wheel drive. The German automobile manufacturer has been perfecting, repairing and modifying Porches from the company base in the tiny municipality of Pfaffenhausen which was RUF's point of origin since 1963.

The brand new RUF CTR will be the first automobile to be built using the company's in-house chassis. The platform is also the first carbon fiber monocoque chassis which is produced for a rear engine car as cited by Car Buzz. It will still use the twin-turbo flat-six 3.6-liter engine based on the 911, but this time it's been tweaked to dish out an incredible 700 horsepower. The new car will be interesting to handle using a rear-wheel drive and it adopts the original rear-engine setup which will send power to the rear wheels inside a six-speed manual gearbox.

Alois Ruf, President and owner of RUF Automobile GmbH said that the concept for the 2017 RUF CTR is one idea that has been in his imagination for a very long time. The company has been waiting for the right time in history to build their own car and the 30th anniversary of the "Yellow Bird" CTR is considered the best moment.

It took five years for the German company to produce the new RUF CTR but for most car enthusiasts it's an excellent tribute for the iconic Yellowbird. Reports are saying that only 30 units will be created to mark the anniversary of the RUF Yellowbird.
