With "The Vampire Diaries" nearing the end of its eight-season run, avid viewers are looking forward to seeing Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Damon's (Ian Somerhalder) reunion in the CW series. The latest promo clip for the show's upcoming series finale unveiled the two characters first meeting after Nina's long absence.

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 only has several episodes left before the CW series closes its final chapter. After more than seven years, avid fans will have to say goodbye to beloved characters such as Elena, Damon, Stefan (Paul Wesley), Caroline (Candice King), Bonnie (Kat Graham) and more.

In the upcoming series finale, viewers will see the most-awaited reunion between Elena and Damon. The promo clip for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 episode 16 posted on TVLine featured the older Salvatore brother's surprise in discovering that his sleeping girlfriend's casket has been opened.

Accompanied by Stefan, the two siblings arrive home to find Elena's casket open and empty. Damon turns to his brother to ask what happened when a familiar voice calls out his name. Suddenly appearing near the casket is Elena who also has surprised yet confused look on her face.

At this point, it is unclear how Elena was woken up from the spell that kept her sleeping since the end of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 6. Given the spell's condition where she can only be revived upon Bonnie's death, it is unsure if something happened to the psychic witch that resulted to Elena's return.

Meanwhile, the upcoming "The Vampire Diaries" series finale will also feature the death of a beloved character. Episode spoilers posted on Entertainment Weekly teased of a cemetery scene where Elena and her loved ones are attending a funeral and saying their final goodbyes to a friend.

"The Vampire Diaries" aired its first episode in September 2009. The CW series will end its more than seven-year broadcast on March. 10, Friday.
