Hyun Bin’s Movie ‘Confidential Assignment’ Gains Popularity In North America
The South Korean film "Confidential Assignment" posted steady box office numbers following its release in various North American movie theaters. Recently, Hyun Bin and Yoo Hae Jin's movie nabbed a spot in the Top 30 films currently showing in the U.S.
Hyun and Yoo's spy action film gained a small slice of the North American movie market with steady box office numbers for a foreign film. "Confidential Assignment" has captured the interest of many moviegoers given its talented cast members and intriguing storyline.
In a recent announcement by the film's distributor, as obtained by Korea Herald, CJ Entertainment America stated that the film is gaining the interest of many moviegoers through "word of mouth." With its rising popularity, Hyun's new film posted box office sales of $236,322 as of Feb. 10, Friday.
"Confidential Assignment" also entered the top 30 movies list showing at the U.S. box office for the month February. The said South Korean film landed at number 29, according to CJ Entertainment America.
The movie tells the story of North American investigator Cheol Ryung (Hyun) and South Korean detective Jin Tae (Yoo) who were tasked to catch Ki Seong (Kim Joo Hyuk). With the said North Korean villain hiding in South Korea, the two investigators were forced to team up to apprehend Ki Seong.
Meanwhile, Hyun's film posted strong box office figures in South Korea. Released on Jan. 18, the movie was watched by 543,372 viewers during the Feb. 10 to Feb. 12 weekend, according to data from the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), as cited by Yonhap News.
With the movie's recent viewership count, the spy film's accumulated box office numbers already surpassed the 7 million mark. Achieved on its 25th day run in South Korea, the movie became the fastest January released film to reach the said milestone.
"Confidential Assignment" is set to hit Hawaiian movie theaters on Feb. 17, Friday.
