Nintendo Entertainment System Games Turns 30; Company History Detailed!
Nintendo Entertainment System games are now three decades old since it was first released on October 18, 1985 by Nintendo in America.
As known by fans, there were 17 Nintendo Entertainment System games, which includes Mario Bros. and others like, Hogan's Alley and Legend of Zelda. Before Nintendo made an impact to the U.S, it was first a successful hit in Japan on 1983.
According to the history books, Minuro Arakawa, Nintendo of America president made a tough decision to gamble and bring it over to the U.S in 1985. He had a hard time looking for partners and buyers for the new console distribution. The company refused to let Arakawa to quit so they shipped 100,000 Nintendo Entertainment Systems and launched it in New York, the country's arduous market.
Referring to Arakawa, "His strategy was, if it's going to work in New York, it will spread," recalled Gail Tilden, Nintendo's advertising manager said, as quoted by Modvive.
According to Kotaku, It was initially a tough challenge to convince retailers to sell the console even with the cool features like cool light gun and a robot setting. Nintendo's made a desperate deal to allow retailers to display their consoles free in stores and only paying for a unit that sold. From the official launching date through the holiday season, the console sold well in 1985 with between 50,000 and 90,000 units and it is enough proof that test markets are willing to expand to other cities in early 1986. The fact that NES came to US first before Europe was considered by fans to be surprising since the European market haven't receive retail versions until September 1, 1986.
The Nintendo Entertainment System games began a revolution bringing consoles to people's homes after the success of arcades. NES developed the gaming landscape that other independent developers trying to replicate to get the NES magic but many gamers would argue that their childhood games are as flawless as they are. Now that the Nintendo Entertainment Systems turned 30, from 8-bit to games with realistic graphics. Modvive describes it as the console that brought influence to gamers childhood gaming experiences.
