Tour Bus Killed 4 People, Injured 20 More
A tour bus killed 4 people and injured 20 more when it crashed into a guardrail along Gyeongbu Expressway Sunday morning. Of the 20 injured passengers, 8 were in critical condition.
The bus was from Suwon, Gyeonggi Province and was heading south to Mt. Daedoon in South Chungcheong Province when it encountered an accident along Gyeongbu Expressway. The tour bus that killed 4 people met an accident at around 9:32 a.m. when, unfortunately, upon nearing Hoedeok Junction, it zigzagged and hit a guardrail. The bus, with 45 passengers aboard, overturned on its right side, killing 4 passengers right on the spot and leaving 20 more injured.
Some of the passengers were able to get out of the bus by breaking windows. However, some were stuck in their seats. Some even fell beneath broken seat while others dangled in the air from seatbelts.
"Some were pinned on top of each other on the floor after the bus flipped. I was hanging from my seat belt until I was rescued," a 70-year-old survivor narrated.
According to the investigation, the tour bus that killed 4 people was not over speeding. The bus was trying to avoid a vehicle which suddenly switched lanes in front of it when it crashed into a guardrail. That made the bus lost total control and flipped over to its right.
The tour bus killed 4 people from the hiking club it was carrying. The passengers, who were members of a hiking club, were on their way to a holiday trip the mountain in South Chungcheong province when the unfortunate accident happened.
Those who were injured from the accident were taken to the nearest hospital right away.
