S. Korean Prime Minister Urges North Korea To Stop Development Of Nuclear Weapons And Missiles
The South Korean Prime Minister urges North Korea to end its development of missiles and nuclear weapons that aim to put pressure on South Korea.
On Monday, October 10, Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn said that North Korea must stop its development of nuclear weapons and missiles that results threats to the international peace in the region. The prime minister also added that South Korea will join forces with other countries in order to stop provocations made by Pyongyang.
Hwang is a lawyer who was elected as the Prime Minister in South Korea by President Park Geun Hye on May 21, 2015. The 59-year old Prime Minister has served as the chief in several provincial prosecutors' offices.
In June 2002, a 34-member body was formed to promote Asian exchanges after Prime Minister Hwang made the call in Thailand at the meeting of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD). He also said at the gathering that Pyongyang must give more focus in the livelihood projects that will improve the lives of North Koreans.
"North Korea conducted two nuclear tests and fired 22 ballistic missiles this year, continuing its provocations. Through full-fledged sanctions and pressure against the North, South Korea is working closely with the international community to make Pyongyang give up its nukes," Hwang said.
Hwang also emphasized that peace is vital for the sustainable and future-oriented development in South Korea.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Hwang also mentioned that South Korea plans to give a helping hand to developing countries across Asia and to assist them in growing larger capabilities in science and technologies that are vital for a country's sustainable growth.
This year, North Korea has conducted a total of two successful nuclear tests which resulted tension with South Korea. According to a ministry official, there is a possibility that North Korea will conduct another nuclear test to celebrate its upcoming key anniversary.
