President Park Attends Korean Community Leaders' Gathering

Nonstop protests asking President Park to step down will be staged for the next couple of weeks.

South Korean President, Park Geun-hye attended the Korean community leaders' gathering which included leaders from across the world.

At the gathering, President Park offered her encouragement and appreciation to the leaders for their contribution to the national development of the country.

The gathering was called "World Korean Community Leaders Convention" which was held in Seoul. In line with the convention was a ceromony for celebrating the Korean Day, which has been observed since year 2007 and promotes help to 7.2 million overseas Koreans to maintain their ethnicity as Koreans and improve national pride.

During the president's speech at the Korean Day celebration, She was expected to ask the participants to support the South Korean young adults who were wishing to get jobs overseas and to join the efforts in Seoul in promoting peace at the Korean Peninsula and laying groundwork for reunification, said in a press release by Cheong Wa Dae, office of president Park.

Meanwhile, during the convention, President Park conferred citations and national decorations to one group and five individuals who have participated in the advancement project of South Korean communities in foreign countries which includes the association of Germany-based South Korean nurses. A total of 98 overseas Korean workers were awarded and honored with national medals and prizes.

The Korean Community Leaders Convention which has been yearly held since 2000, began the four-day run on Tuesday, October 4. The convention garnered 500 attendees which includes 400 South Korean community chiefs from 84 countries around the globe.

Furthermore, the convention was hosted by the state-run Overseas Koreans Foundation. It featured several policy and debate forums on a set of current issues concerning the Overseas Korean workers and it also served as a venue for cultural performances. The convention was a successful one because of the participation of the community leaders as well as the presence of the South Korean President Park Geun-hye.
