An article from the Korea Times gave ideas on the various things to do during the Chuseok holiday annually observed in South Korea.

During the long Chuseok holiday, people in South Korea usually go through terrible traffic on the roads, trains are fully booked, and restaurants and other food establishments are closed. This event is considered as a family holiday in the country.

This event may bring extra loneliness to foreigners who do not have an immediate family in the country. The article then suggested that the best alternative, especially for foreigners, is to come to or stay in Seoul.

Here are some suggestions:

1. Take in a game - The Jamsil Baseball Stadium has a baseball game every day at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. Football fans can also watch FC Seoul against Jeju United on Sunday at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.

2. Dine in Little Russia - The Russian district in Gwanghui-dong, which is situated behind Lotte Fitin in Dongdaemun Market, is open during the holiday, and you can taste delicious Uzbek and Mongolian cuisine.

3. Visit an 'abandoned' amusement park - Several years ago, the rides of Yongma Land in eastern Seoul were stopped. However, the owner of the park, Youn Seong Gu still allows visitors in for 5,000 won entrance fee. The park is famous for being the venue for Crayon Pop's "Bar Bar Bar" video.

4. Go to a gig - Various clubs have events scheduled on the weekend so be sure to check those out if you are one of those who will not celebrate Chuseok with their family.

5. Go outside - You can hike up a mountain or bike around the city. You can also have a picnic in Yeouido Hangang Park or explore the new Gyeongui Line Forest Park.

6. Take a day trip - Chuseok is a great time to travel to Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, walk the beaches at Yongyu station next to Incheon Airport, or go to Songdo Central Park.

Aside from these activities, you can also try going to the museums, palaces, and different amusement parks in the country. You can choose whatever activity suits your preference, but make sure that you can enjoy the long holiday before it ends.
