Telltale's 'The Walking Dead: Season 3 A New Frontier' coming in November

Telltale Games has announced the new installment to its acclaimed video game entry into "The Walking Dead" franchise, revealing that "The Walking Dead: Season 3" will release in November with the new "A New Frontier" subtitle.

This year's PAX West recently happened, and with it are a host of new announcements and updates for the video game industry. One of them was for the upcoming new season of Telltale Games' "The Walking Dead" interactive drama graphic adventure series.

Telltale Games' originally unveiled that a new season for the series was coming during June's Electronic Entertainment Expo 2016 event. The studio released a teaser trailer to coincide with the announcement, with those not present at the event able to view it on YouTube.

The trailer showed a much older Clementine, working with then-unnamed character. It has now been revealed by Telltale Games that this character's name Is Javier, and he will actually be one of the playable protagonists of the series alongside returning main character Clementine.

Javier's description is that he is "a man struggling to keep his family together in the new world," suggesting that he will be much like Clementine and "The Walking Dead: Season 1" protagonist Lee Everett who have both fought to keep their groups and newfound families safe and whole. Though for Javier's case, his family might be actually blood-related.

"The Walking Dead: Season 3" will also bring a marked changed to the mechanics of the series; it will be the first main game to have two main playable characters instead of one. "The Walking Dead: 400 Days" side entry previously featured a collection of playable protagonists but that game was an anthology of separate stories that was eventually woven into one at the end.

For "The Walking Dead: Season 3," the title will be the first to feature two playable characters in a singular connecting story. How this will play out is another question; it is either that the game will allow players to choose which to control at certain points, allow them to choose one character in the beginning and they will become the main character with the other relegated to supporting capacity, or that control will transfer between characters at select intervals.

Clementine is also much older than how she was in the previous season, and presumably much more hardened as well going by how she now has an easier time shooting things. Telltale has now revealed that "The Walking Dead: Season 3" will actually be set years after the previous installment, which could help tie up the sheer differences among that game's myriad of endings. More importantly, this time jump has now brought the video game series closer to the current timeline of the storyline in the comics; so it is possible that some very familiar faces can pop up here and there.

"The Walking Dead: Season 3: A New Frontier" will release sometime in November.
