Local Design Foundation Holds A Fashion Forum in Seoul
A local design foundation held a fashion forum in Seoul on Friday with the presence of popular South Korean designers that shared their experiences to aspiring designers.
Seo Eun-young, the CEO of local fashion company Create Bettie is the moderator of the event. The Seoul Design Foundation hosted the event at Dongdaemun Design Plaza in eastern Seoul at around 7 p.m.
Seo is known as one of the few first-generation fashion stylists and designer in South Korea with experience working with the top actors and actresses, including Ko Hyun-jung, Jeon Ji-hyeon, and Jung Woo-sung.
Some designers shared their experience on how they grow and develop their career in the fashion industry. Park Jong-woo, who is known by his stage name Bajowoo, and Lee Myung-sin, who head 99%IS and Low Classic shared their journey and the secret to their success to those aspiring designers.
"When I decided to launch my brand, all I had was 10 million won (US$9,000). But, if you look closely, there are many programs that support rising designers and artists," Lee said.
Seoul Fashion Creative Studio is a studio that provides space for designers and they also offer customized services such as marketing, promotion, and training. Park and Lee are some of the recipients of the studio that plan to discover new designers in South Korea.
A party was held which is free of charge after the fashion forum was ended. There are a total of 150 participants, mostly are fashion students and aspiring designers that dreams to build a name and a network in the fashion industry.
"Our foundation does a lot of projects and fashion is among the most important. We hope today's discussion can contribute to vitalizing the fashion industry in Dongdaemun," foundation Chief Lee Keun said.
Dongdaemun is the center of the fashion industry in South Korea with a great record of foreign and domestic visitors that launch their own businesses in this district.
The Seoul Design Foundation was established in December 2008 with a goal to improve the competitiveness of South Korea's design industry particularly in Seoul.
