LA 2024 Olympics: What to Expect With Setting The Games At The City Of Angels
Will the Summer Olympics 2024 be in Los Angeles, California?
As the ongoing 2016 Rio Summer Olympics enters its third and final week, the world is gearing up in preparation for the end of the historic event; at the same time, eyes also turn forward to what might come next in the Olympics' future with bids for the stage of the 2024 event piling up with the USA's own Los Angeles among the top contenders.
The current Olympics in Brazil are set to close soon, with the games' closing ceremony set for Sunday, August 21. For what might come next, the events for the next Winter and Summer games are already set.
The next immediate Olympic games are set to take place in Pyeongchang, South Korea in 2018, with the class of games being for the Winter sports After that is a return of the games to China's Beijing capital, though for the Winter Games this time around as compared to the country's turn in the Summer Games last 2008.
For the next Summer Games, Tokyo won the bid to host the 2020 events. After that, with eight years still left on the calendar, the spot is currently empty as to who might have the next honor of hosting the 2024 Summer Games.
There is currently a total of four candidate cities announced by the International Olympic Committee to be bidding to host the 2024 games, though there used to be five until Germany's Hamburg retracted it's a bid after a little more than half of its citizens voted against hosting the events.
With Hamburg's withdrawal, the remaining contenders are Budapest, Hungary; Paris, France; Rome, Italy; and Los Angeles, USA. Out of the four, Paris is reportedly the favorite to win the bid with Los Angeles and Rome tied at odds for second place, leaving Budapest in third.
For the USA's own City of Angels, the location's committee in charge of overseeing the bid are hoping to ride on LA's massive cultural weight. Considering the 2024 event's classification under the Summer Games, the Los Angeles bid is incorporating its close ties with the image of being a sunny locale to garner votes.
LA 2024 will be about, according to the city's slogan for the bid, what they do best which is "reinvent, reimagine, dream." It also seems like LA is hoping it's very own Tinseltown will add as another draw to its bid, considering Hollywood's status as a major tourist attraction and cultural site.
As for what the city will do for the 2024 Summer Games, it is boasting that they will make a different approach from previous hosts when it comes to preparing for the event. Whereas previous hosts spent billions to create magnificent venues that pretty much only got used fully in the Olympics, LA plans to utilize its already existing assets to accommodate the events, the athletes and the spectators.
