The production site of the hit Korean drama 'Descendants of the Sun' has officially become a tourist attraction when it opened to the public on Friday, August 12, attracting local and international tourists and fans of the drama.

Based on a report from Yonhap News, the production site is a restoration of the Taebaek part of the military romance-action drama series. The city of Taebaek is located in Gangwon Province and allocated a budget of approximately 270 million won (US $245,000) for the project.

'Descendants of the Sun' was a Wednesday-Thursday drama shown on KBS that started on February 24. The popular series tackled the love story of doctor Kang Mo Yeon (played by Song Hye Kyo) and Army Captain Yoo Si Jin (played by Song Joong Ki) in the fictional war-torn country of Uruk.

The film site in Taebaek was shown in the drama as the location of the medical camp led by Kang and the military troop which was deployed under the leadership of Yoo.

This newest tourist spot is located 271 kilometers of Seoul. At the site, tourists and visitors can browse the medical camp and military base, even wearing the same design as those worn by the cast in the drama.

The military camp is fully geared with combat uniforms and boots, ammunition belts, bullet-proof helmets, and military blankets. There are also army trucks and a helicopter outside the camp, completing the military vibe of the place. The city is reportedly considering placing a replica tank in the station in the near future.

Next to the Taebaek military base is the Uruk powerhouse, which was shown being destroyed by an earthquake in the drama.

In the next two years, the Taebaek government intends to add a 13.1 billion won in establishing restaurants, storage for fermented food, replica mine facilities, and a park there.

Even though the drama ended several months ago, its popularity, including that of the actors', still continues up to this day, with the series being shown in other Asian countries.
