Two South Korean sisters who were orphaned and separated decades ago finally got their much-awaited reunion after being hired to work at the same Florida hospital, on the same floor, reported Japan Times Oct. 12.

Sisters Holly Hoyle O'Brien (Shin Pok Nam) and Meagan Hughes (Shin Eun Sook) were orphaned at an early age when their biological father died after getting hit by a speeding train. Holly was then forced to live in a South Korean orphanage, while her younger half-sister Meagan was taken by her stepmother even before their father died.

At the age of nine, Holly was adopted by an American couple in 1978 and grew up happily in Alexandria, Virginia, with six brothers and three sisters.

Meanwhile, Meagan barely had any recollection of her mother or the Korean orphanage where she was eventually left in, until she was adopted by an American family as well and lived 300 miles away from her sister in Kingston, New York.

Holly recalls waking up in the middle of the night in tears and telling her adoptive parents, "my daddy died, I have a sister, we need to find her."

Her adoptive mother tried searching for Meagan through Holly's South Korean orphanage but no record of a biological sister was found.

"But in my heart, I knew," recalled Holly, who is now 46-years-old. "I knew she was out there somewhere."

Holly and Meagan were hired earlier this year at Bayfront Health Port Charlotte to work on the hospital's fourth floor. Holly knew of Meagan when one of the patients told her that there was another nurse from South Korea who said they should meet as they may be from the same town.

The Herald Tribune noted Oct. 10 that Holly and Meagan began talking to each other and building a really good friendship. They would eat lunch together and meet after work, most of the time comparing notes on their origins and similarities.

After all that they have learned from each other, a DNA test finally confirmed their suspicions.

"I was in shock, I was numb. I have a sister," Meagan stated.

"I'm like, this can't be," said Holly. "I was trembling, I was so excited, I was ecstatic."

"I have this very strong belief that God must be ... like, whatever I've done, I must've done something good in my life," added Holly in tears.
