‘Jurassic Park 2’ Release Date Announced; Film To Premiere In 2018 Says Universal

Universal Pictures recently revealed the exact date for the release of "Jurassic World 2." The megahit dinosaur film sequel will hit the cinemas on June 22, 2018. Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt will return to star, with Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly set to write the script, a report on Cinemablend said.

With almost three years before the release, marketing of the film should be massive in order to keep the hype going. "Jurassic World" did well in the box office, raking in over $1.5 billion in just a few months, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The challenge for the filmmakers is to sustain the interest of the viewers, so that they would still flock to the cinemas even after a three-year wait.

Writer-director Colin Trevorrow clearly knows this, telling Wired UK in an interview that it will not be about dinosaurs on the loose, chasing and eating people on an island. The "Jurassic Park" trilogy and the "Jurassic World" reboot all did well with this premise, but as Trevorrow said, it will "get old real fast." He opened up about the possibility of an off-island setting, with "open-source" dinosaurs that could be weaponized.

If viewers take Trevorrow's word as gospel, three years is a short time for a film of such magnitude. Digitalspy UK lists some of the things to expect from the film, including a possibility that will be "Jurassic World 2" with an emphasis on "world." The first film opened up about engineering your own dinosaur, and training it for functions other than theme park display, and this could be followed up on the succeeding films.

In a span of three years, the filmmakers could fill the world with CGI dinos. And based on the reception of the first film, it is not a bad thing. Viewers won't mind bringing back Pratt and Howard, even with their critically panned acting and obvious lack of chemistry. The dinosaurs are the real stars of these films, and three years is a short time to wait for them to come to life once again.
