Alex Hirsch is still open to the possibility of doing a "Gravity Falls" season 3 although  clarifying that this may not be anytime soon.

This piece of good news was revealed by the "Gravity Falls" creator during a press event for the "Weirdmageddon" Part 3 series, reported the TV Insider.

"I do love these characters and that's part of why I didn't want to continue forever." Hirsch said during the interview. "I wouldn't want to take them to a place I didn't believe in."

According to the 30-year-old animator and TV producer, taking a break from the well-loved cartoon series will allow him to step back and decide if producing a "Gravity Falls" season 3 is the creative track he wants to take.

"That being said, it's not inconceivable that one day we may return to this world because they are such rich characters, and with a little bit of time away from it, it's possible there may be a special or something," Hirsch explained.

The California Institute of the Arts graduate teased viewers on what to expect from the "Weirdmageddon" part 3 finale, which could provide inspiration for a futuristic version of "Gravity Falls" season 3.

"But I think when people watch the final ['Weirdmageddon' part 3] episode, they will see threads in that episode that one imagines could potentially be addressed in some future form, whether it's in a comic or a special, or it's something a 100 years after I die with robots reconstructing the show and remaking it themselves," he elaborated.

The youthful TV executive however held back on what the future held for the show's main protagonist Alex, which could perhaps hint at a possible "Gravity Falls" season 3.

"Right now, I'm content with where it is, but I can't say what Future Alex may do," he said. "We'll just have to wait and see."

In an entry made by Hirsch in his Tumblr account late last year, he explained "that the show isn't being cancelled- it's being finished."

"This is 100% my choice, and it's something I decided on a very long time ago," he continued. "I always designed Gravity Falls to be a finite series about one epic summer- a series with a beginning, middle, and end.

Fans will just have to keep their fingers crossed, as based on Hirsch's recent pronouncement, "Gravity Falls" season 3 just might see the light of day.
