‘Last Week Tonight With John Oliver’ Recap: Why Valentine's Day Is A Nightmare According To The Host

“Last Week Tonight With John Oliver” has finally returned to primetime last Sunday, February 14. With the start of the third season, Oliver was reportedly excited to share his views on the election coverage, process, and even went as far as to share his opinions on how to handle the love month.

As the first episode of the season aired coincidently on Valentine’s Day, Entertainment Weekly wrote that Oliver candidly shared that his viewers should just avoid the holiday altogether. He reportedly said that to keep yourself safe from this nightmare, it is best to stay in and watch his show, which happens to be the least romantic thing anyone can see on television.

Besides poking fun on the cliche that Valentine’s Day brings, “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver” also focused on the election process and how it seemed to be making the lives of Americans difficult, Huffington Post reported. Oliver reportedly wasted no time in going after the Republicans of whom he accused of blocking everyone’s right to vote.

The 38-year-old host reportedly criticized the voter ID law, calling it “ineffective in preventing fraud,” CNN wrote. Oliver went further to state that reportedly, those legislators who claim that the voter ID law can prevent fraud are not actually following similar rules when they cast their own votes.

Most critics of John Oliver were reportedly calling the host “too harsh” or was being an “annihilator” of thorny topics. However, Oliver cleared that he did not want to be known as such, Mashable reported. The show is reportedly not looking for any level of disembowelment as the defining moment of their work.

“Last Week Tonight With John Oliver” airs on HBO every Sundays at 11 p.m. ET
