Holly Holm Defeat Pushed Ronda Rousey To Try To Commit Suicide; Boyfriend Kept UFC Champ Alive
The defeat in the Holly Holm fight affected Ronda Rousey in more ways than one.
In a revealing interview on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," Rousey told the comedian that she came to a lowest point in her life following the KO loss, and her confidence was shattered.
The former undisputed UFC champ, who was dispensing opponents left and right prior to the defeat, was so badly beaten up by Holly Holm that she had to be hospitalized.
"I was literally sitting there and thinking about killing myself and that exact second I'm like, 'I'm nothing, what do I do anymore and no one gives a s*** about me anymore without this,''' she said.
However, Ronda Rousey's boyfriend Travis Browne was there to provide comfort and encouragement after the Holly Holm fight.
"To be honest I looked up and I saw my man Travis was standing up there and I looked up at him and I was like, 'I need to have his babies. I need to stay alive,'" she said.
Ronda Rousey also explained that the defeat to Holly Holm could be attributed to the fact that she didn't prepare hard enough.
"I think the one thing that was different was that it was my third title fight in nine months and I don't think anyone has ever attempted that before," she added.
Following her KO loss, Ronda Rousey was naturally despondent. But she seemed to have moved on from that episode as she even congratulated Holly Holm when she hosted "Saturday Night Live" last month.
"This is the first time I'm talking to my fans since I lost to Holly Holm in November, which by the way was a fight Holly deserved to win," she said in her monologue. "And I just wanted to take a minute to sincerely congratulate her."
But the only way for Ronda Rousey to come back to her dominant self was to slay her demons and also defeat Holly Holm in their next fight.
"I need to come back," she told ESPN magazine. "I need to beat this chick. Who knows if I'm going to pop my teeth out or break my jaw or rip my lip open. I have to fucking do it."
