Will Darth Vader Be 'Star Wars: Rogue One's' Main Villain? Black Stormtroopers Confirmed!
As the dust settles on "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," fans are now looking forward to the release of the franchise's first spin-off film, "Rogue One," which will reportedly feature Darth Vader as its main villain.
The upcoming movie's plot is set before the events of 1977's "A New Hope," and will focus on a group of Rebel fighters that will attempt to steal the plans for the Death Star before it is fully functional.
Given the film's setting, rumors about Darth Vader appearing in the upcoming "Star Wars" only intensified.
Furthermore, it was reported back in January that concept art containing the iconic villain had already existed.
Now, JoBlo confirmed that the Sith Lord will appear in the movie and will have a larger part than originally expected.
The outlet stated that they don't specifically know how big of a part the legendary villain will play in "Star Wars: Rogue One," but they're certain the iconic character is returning to the big screen.
Apart from Vader, the publication confirmed that new all-black Stormtroopers a.k.a. "Death Troopers" will be introduced in "Rogue One."
The website also teased that a droid will help the Rebel Group led by Felicity Jones' character and that it will be a real "scene stealer."
Created by the Empire, the droid has been reprogrammed to aid the Alliance.
According to the report, it will have "long arms and legs and is very different than a typical protocol droid like C-3PO."
"Star Wars: Rogue One" is currently being filmed under the direction of "Godzilla" helmer Gareth Edwards.
It stars Felicity Jones ("The Theory of Everything"), Diego Luna ("The Book of Life"), Donnie Yen ("Ip Man"), Mads Mikkelsen ("Hannibal"), Forest Whitaker ("The Last King of Scotland") and Ben Mendelsohn ("The Dark Knight Rises").
"Star Wars: Rogue One" is set to be released in US theaters on Dec. 16, 2016.
