Patrick Dempsey Irreplaceable In Ellen Pompeo’s Heart? ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Ep 1209 Gets ‘Brutal'
While Patrick Dempsey's character in "Grey's Anatomy" was already dead, it still appeared that he is irreplaceable in the heart of Ellen Pompeo, who plays the lead role Meredith Grey.
In its report, the Inquisitr revealed that Giacomo Gianniotti's entry in the ABC TV series was not anchored on replacing the 50-year-old actor who used to play as Dr. Derek Shepherd, the husband of the 46-year-old actress' character.
Citing an interview with New York Post, the outlet reported that the new addition to the cast "will not romantically pursue Meredith Grey."
"I came in directly after they killed off Patrick Dempsey [Dr. Derek Shepherd] so there was this weird stigma that I was replacing him, which is not true at all," Gianniotti, who was cast as intern Andrew DeLuca, said,
The report claimed that coming out with such statement was allegedly done "in an attempt to do damage control," considering that the show's fans have been vocal in airing their objection over any replacement to Patrick Dempsey being Ellen Pompeo's love interest.
"I'm just a new character on the show," he insisted. "I'm not filling any void. I've been getting those crazy tweets: 'He's not Derek,' 'He'd better stay away from Meredith.'"
But with Gianniotti having been promoted to a series regular, several followers speculated that "a romance is going to bloom, and since fans guessed that it would be Meredith from the beginning, this only added fuel to the fire."
On the other hand, ET Online shared that Ellen Pompeo, who is a pal of Patrick Dempsey's wife, Jillian Fink, was quite unsure if "Grey's Anatomy" fans could handle Meredith Grey's "brutal attack," an episode directed by Denzel Washington.
"They did tell me what was going to happen to Meredith," the actress told the outlet, "and I said, 'I don't know if the fans can handle that.'"
"Grey's Anatomy" episode 1209 was aired on Thursday.
