Rumors: Robert Downey, Jr Not Willing To Do ‘Iron Man 4’ Even To The Tune Of $100 Million?
The latest rumors surrounding "Iron Man 4" revealed that there's nothing in the pipeline yet, as the figure of $100 million has been thrown around in order to get Robert Downey Jr. to sign in to reprise his role as Tony Stark.
According to Parent Herald, talks are already underway between Marvel and Downey to do the fourth and probably the last installment in the franchise.
"Reports said that Marvel is trying to negotiate with Downey Jr. for playing Iron Man in 'Iron Man 4' and is even willing to pay the actor $100 million to reprise his role," the article claimed.
"However, Downey Jr. is said to have grown weary and tired of the franchise already and thinks that he will be too old for the Iron Man role."
Despite the rumors, however, it seems there's no talks of doing "Iron Man 4" yet, as far as Robert Downey Jr. is concerned.
"There isn't one in the pipe," he told Variety. "No, there's no plan for a fourth 'Iron Man.'"
He was also asked if he would be fine with Marvel Studios doing a reboot of "Iron Man," this time with a different lead.
Downey could only laugh as he said, "I like that the idea is that it would be up to me, like I'm casting director for Marvel."
Robert Downey Jr. is one of the highest paid actors in the Marvel universe. The rumors about the studio offering him $100 million for "Iron Man 4" seems laughable in the sense that he could get much more on backend deals on merchandise, as well as a cut on the ticket sales.
But despite all the rumors, perhaps Marvel can still convince Robert Downey Jr. to commit to doing "Iron Man 4," and that's to hire Mel Gibson as the director. The actor said as much in an interview two years ago when presented with that possibility and he replied, "Why not? That movie would be bananas."
