Power Rangers Movie: Why the New Trailer is Better

The shortlist for the "Power Rangers" movie reboot cast has been revealed and it includes actress Naomi Scott, and actors Daniel Zovatto and Mitchell Hope among others, according to a report on Flickering Myth.

It has been previously revealed that the official "Power Rangers" movie reboot by Lionsgate will be starting production early next year. In addition, the film is looking to a release date sometime in 2017.

Now it looks like the cast is also coming together with the revelation of the "Power Rangers" movie reboot cast shortlist.

The shortlist for the actors and actresses who will be playing the role of the rangers has been revealed exclusively by Variety.

First, there's the role of the Kimberly, otherwise known as the Pink Ranger. The report states that "The Martian" and "Terra Nova" actress Naomi Scott, and Stephanie Scott have been named as the frontrunners for the role, according to MovieWeb.

Secondly, the list of actors that Lionsgate want to be in the film to take on the role of Zack a.k.a. the Black Ranger include "Major Crimes" actor Brian "Sene" Marc, Daniel Zovatto of "It Follows" and "Chasing Life" actor Ross Butler.

Lastly, but of course, not the least, the shortlist for the actors who will possibly be giving their take on the leader of the Rangers, Jason, also known as the Red Ranger, has been unveiled, and according to Screen Crush, the list includes "Shortland Street" actor K.J. Apa, Mitchell Hope of "The Descendants" and "The Shannara Chronicles" actor Austin Butler.

Judging by the age bracket of the actors and actresses named in Lionsgate's shortlist, it would seem that the studio is really set on prioritizing the "Power Rangers" brand as was written by ScreenRant.

Furthermore, if the details provided by Variety are final, it would seem that Lionsgate has matched the name of the characters in the reboot with the original characters in the '90s hit TV show "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers," which could mean that the rumored details then could possibly be applied in the film.
