‘Tales of Symphonia’ Bad PC Port Makes Fans Unhappy; Superfan Durante To The Rescue
"Tales of Symphonia" PC port problem? It seems people can always count on superfan Peter "Durante" Thoman to step up and fix the bug.
The classic JRPG "Tales of Symphonia" that was originally released on GameCube way back year 2003 has finally made its debut in PC. The game is already available on Steam for more than three days now but fans were not very happy about it.
Many fans are aggravated and complained on the game's terrible PC port, but thanks to Durante, who has built quite a reputation for his contributions to popular titles like "Dark Souls," "Deadly Premonition" and "Lightning Returns," fans can now use his solution to play the game.
According to the official game description, Bandai Namco Entertainment's PC version for "Tales of Symphonia" is based on the PS2 and PS3 port of the 2003 GameCube game title. But there have been a list of unwanted issues by many users on Steam and NeoGAF circling around the web.
According to them, the game's resolution is locked internally at 720p no matter what resolution a gamer may choose. In addition, different languages are broken and the game is using incorrect fonts, omitting some necessary words as a whole. Some users also noted that some words are not even translated correctly.
Then there's the inconsistency issue. Some fans are able to run the game on 30 fps, but some players are able to run it at 40fps. Also, the game's DRM is called VMProtect which creates an entirely new .exe file every time you load it up again.
Bandai Namco is already aware of these "Tales of Symphonia" ports problem that affects players and its gameplay. They even said that their production team is already working hard on it to make sure those issues will be resolved immediately.
"Fixes have already begun rolling out; expect to see continuous improvements moving forward with the title. We'll continue to post updates on this board when they are available," written on Steam's Forums.
While there are fans who can't wait for these updates mentioned, Durante has already released a remedy.
His fix took him less than 15 minutes and he released the preliminary plugins for his famous GeDoSaTo utility that addresses and resolves the "Tales of Symphonia" PC ports issues. What makes it very incredible is that he made it available for free on his blog.
