Pokken Tournament's Release Date On Wii U Confirmed; Which Characters Will Be Included?

Nintendo has announced a release date for "Pokken Tournament," an arcade-based Pokémon fighting game on their Wii U platform next month.

Pokemon Co. Japan dropped "Pokken Tournament's" first trailer back in December.

In line with the latest footage, Nintendo has confirmed five other Pokemon characters to appear in the game, although they were absent in the trailer.

They are Rotom, Dragonite, Victini, Togekiss and Sceptile.

The giant gaming company will be releasing the game with its own special controller which is based on the arcade machine released exclusively in Japan in July last year.

Initial reports claimed that the special controller would be a Japan-only exclusive.

Now, Yibada reported that the upcoming Wii U controller is not limited to the Japanese market. The controller - dubbed "Pokken Tournament Pro Pad," is listed on Amazon and thereby will be available to US consumers.

The game itself is scheduled for a March 18 release date in Japan and will be available in US in Q2 of 2016.

Amazon noted on their website that the controller will be out on March 18, meaning the special controller could drop on the same day as the game.

The Japanese release of the controller bundle sells for about $ 307 and comes with a 32 GB Black Wii U Premium Set, a digital copy of "Pokken Tournament" and a special booklet that contains all of the characters' fighting moves.

Additionally, gamers who pick up the first run copy of the game will receive a special Shadow Mewtwo amibo card that unlocks the characters, eliminating the need to finish the game to acquire him.

The game, which was originally launched for arcade in Japan, is based on Namco's "Tekken" series and features Pokemon characters battling in stages similar to the popular fighting franchise. Some of the characters known to appear are Pikachu, Blaziken, Machamp, Charizard, Gardevoir, Weavile, Suicune and Shadow Mewtwo.

With no exact release date yet, "Pokken Tournament" is said to arrive in spring.
