Jason Derulo Returns In ‘So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation’ Premiere On May With A Tween Twist
Fox has renewed “So You Think You Can Dance” for its 13th season, but with a major twist. This time, instead of watching professional adult dancers, people will follow the journey of young dancers.
During the press release, contestants will be tween dancers between ages of 8 to 13 with the help of expert dancers.
The host Cat Deeley along with the judges will still be Paula Abdul and Nigel Lythgoe as the guide of the aspiring dancers.
Included in the young dancers' critique is the American songwriter-dancer "Want To Want Me" singer and judge for the two other previous season, Jason Derulo.
The format has been updated as part of the major twist. During the early weeks of the dance reality show, tween dancers will compete to stay in “The Academy”. Once top 10 has been chosen, they will then move to “So You Think You Can Dance” studio and get a chance to dance and be paired up with an all-star alumnus who will help them get through the competition.
Creator and producer Nigel Lythgoe said that when he founded the Dizzy Feet Foundation, a foundation that gives scholarship to young aspiring dancers, it had proven to him that young dancers got what it takes to compete in a reality show.
“The series has captivated its loyal fan base for over a decade, inspiring young dancers across the country and transforming the face of dance in every medium and we’re so excited to feature a young and talented new group of performers on the series," Fox Entertainment President David Madden said during the press release.
Producer Lythgoe added that it would be a great privilege to work with the youth who will eventually shape the dace future of the country.
The “So You Think You Can Dance The Next Generation” featuring Jason Derulo is set to premiere on May 30 at 8 PM EST on Fox Channel.
