Nina Dobrev And Ian Somerhalder To Reunite In 'The Vampire Diaries' Season 7, Crossover With 'The Originals'

"The Vampire Diaries" will be coming back to the small screens with season 7. Will Nina Dobrev return in the series to reunite with ex-boyfriend and former co-star Ian Somerhalder?

According to new reports, Dobrev will be coming back in "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 and Somerhalder welcomes her with open arms. Showcreator Julie Plec said there is a great possibility that Dobrev will be reprising her role if she wants to return.

"Yes, I miss her deeply, and would take her back in an instant if she called and said, 'Hey, can I come back and play?'" Plec told Variety.

It has been reported that Dobrev left the show because of her ex-boyfriend Somerhalder. The ex-couple dated while working on the hit show but broke up in 2013. Australia News Network reported that the actress regrets leaving the TV series which helped build her career.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed by Variety that a crossover episode will happen in "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 and "The Originals." 

Mark Pedowitz, the president of the CW network announced at the Television Critics Association press tour that a crossover will happen. Plec also confirmed and shared the storyline of the crossover episodes.

"I've wanted to do this for a really long time and find a way to do it that didn't feel like we were jamming story for the sake of cross-pollinating the shows," Plec told Variety.

The crossover will come in two episodes which will happen in the 14th episode of the respective series.

"So we're sitting in the room, and the plot point is that Stefan (Paul Wesley) is in trouble and he's being pursued by means of magic so how can we get him safe? Well, let's get him to a place where there's no magic," Plec added. "And I was like, 'Oh sh-t! St. James Infirmary! There's a place where there's no magic that can work in New Orleans!' And the whole writer's room just went, "Yay! Finally!" because they've been waiting so long for that opportunity."
