Sony Holds Press Event At E3 Gaming Conference Unveiling New Products For Its Playstation Game Unit

The release date for the PlayStation VR has been announced, and being Sony's first venture into virtual reality, fans are awaiting any news that might come up regarding the unit.

Earlier known as Project Morpheus, the unit is Sony's attempt at virtual devices to rival against other VR gaming console devices like Oculus Rift, etc. Being one of the leading manufacturers in the gaming side, it isn't surprising that the company wants to get itself into the virtual reality revolution.

Sony is likely to launch its VR device coming February. The closest the company has arrived at confirming its release date by saying that the launch will happen soon in 2016, though there isn't any official declaration yet.

"We do not comment on rumour or speculation" was Sony Computer Entertainment UK's official line, according to Alphr.

With the expected release date nearing, various tech geeks have been guessing its price, since there is no official announcement regarding it yet. Given the pricing of the PlayStation 4 and its predecessors, the VR device is likely to be sold at around £350.

The company's CEO Andrew House has indicated that the device will cost the same as 'a new gaming platform', according to ITPRO.

The upcoming unit is rumored to feature full positional tracking, sensing where the user is in real time. This feature might allow the players to experience immersive 3D games in an entire 360-degree environment.

Another feature might be the standard dualshock gamepad via which players would be able to interact with their games. This might be supported via inbuilt motion-control functions.

Handheld batons might enable the device to independently track players' hands and might allow a range of actions like manually reloading weapons as well as completing coordinating challenges.

As to the specs, the Playstation VR is likely to sport a 5.7 inches of 1920 X 1080 OLED display, according to fans. It would be using spectroscopic 3D via two separate screens with identical images for each eye of the user. This would translate into a 960 X 1080 resolution for each eye.

The head-tracking uses the device's camera and the company claims that it will capture the device's position up to 1000 times per second, giving it an incredibly smooth accuracy.

120fps and 120 Hz are the newly improved attributes with respect to frame and refresh rates.

In addition to all these, Sony has promised to address all the issues pertaining to the software update enabling the device to render games at such high frame rate.

Since the specs have been speculated for the PlayStation VR, fans have been awaiting the actual release date.
