Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg Weighs In On Possibly Entering The Presidential Race
Billionaire and former New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg is reportedly considering to run for the highest position in the White House under a third-party ticket. Reports say Bloomber was convinced to run for president outside the Democratic and Republican parties after seeing the current state of the 2016 elections.
According to The Washington Post reported Bloomberg had long been exploring the possibility of running for the presidency but had always been in doubt as to whether a victory would turn in his favor or not. Among the factors that fueled Bloomberg's drive to lead an independent presidential campaign was seeing the rise of Donald Trump, Bernia Sanders and Ted Cruz as well as the tumble of Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.
"Mike Bloomberg for president rests on the not impossible but somewhat unlikely circumstance of either Donald Trump or Ted Cruz versus Bernie Sanders," said former Pennsylvania Governor and Democratic National Committee Chairperson Edward G. Rendell. He added that Hillary Clinton's mainstream figure may contribute to her winning, and Bloomberg would be smart enough "not going to go on a suicide mission."
Michael Bloomberg has built a strong reputation in the business and political arena. He was a longtime Democrat who shifted to the Republican Party when he decided to run for city mayor in 2001. After six years, he switched his registration again to independent.
The New York Times' reported in a press release that Representative Daniel M. Donovan Jr., a friend of Michael Bloomberg, said that "many voters who aren't totally satisfied with any of the people who are running right now, would welcome a Mike Bloomberg candidacy."
While Donovan has not yet fully expressed his support to Bloomberg, he remarked that he may consider him depending on how the presidential race develops in the future.
"He governed more in pragmatic ways than in ideals," Donovan added.
