Microsoft Inc has now acquired Mojang (renowned for making Minecraft) and after an incredible success in its app version of the game, the Education edition is launched for schools. The video content is available on YouTube.

Four years since its debut, the incredibly popular World-building game 'Minecraft' makes its way to School.

MinecraftEdu, a Finnish startup, was developed Teacher Gaming. Microsoft has now acquired the platform though they did not share any details on what they were paying for it. However, the corporation has said that they were not keen about acquiring the young Finnish company.

While Apple and Google have had a strong hold when it came to Educational platforms and apps, Microsoft hopes to get some of that spotlight. It is launching MinecraftEdu, a revamped version of the beloved game, specially designed for educational purpose in classrooms.

The new platform is already available for use in more than 7,000 classrooms and 40 countries totally.

MinecraftEdu's motto being,  "Create. Connect. Collaborate"

As cited in the official website, "MinecraftEdu is a school-ready remix of the original smash hit game Minecraft. Minecraft Education Edition - Bring Minecraft to the Classroom! We provide discounted Minecraft licenses to educational institutions, a custom edition of the game with features designed especially for classroom use, and a hosting service to let users connect and play together"

Minecraft is popularly known as that sandbox game where one's creativity can be built and commonly marked as a child's game where little ones can use block-shaped materials to transform into items, create tools, and have fantastic adventures.

The endless destructive possibilities of the game have caught the attention of teachers, who consider the platform as a learning tool for everything from maths to literature and space science!

Elementary school level students from Santa Ana Unified School district, California, have met online and created from scratch several local historical sites that they studied throughout the year. Other students in science classes have also used the platform to prove that they had understood circuit building, Cited The Next Digit.

Over 5 billion hours of the gameplay is available on YouTube, with more than 160 million views.

The educational edition of the game could be accessed from a shool-wide platform via a log-in ID in any of the School computers or PCs. It would cost $5 annually per student for full access. Discounts are also available.
